Happy Mothers Day!

May 11, 2008

I hope all of you mothers out there had a great day.

Although all of my kids called to wish me a happy Mother's Day we couldn't get together this year but Jerry made sure that I was pampered anyway. He managed to sneek out of the house early Sunday morning for flowers and a card and then served me breakfast in bed. I didn't roll out of bed until about 1030 and he was already busy working on lunch. By the time I had showered lunch was ready and we sat down to eat. While I was finishing getting ready he got the dishes done. What a guy!

The rest of the afternoon was just spent watching TV and napping until Kevin stopped by to wish me a Happy Mother's day. For those of you who don't know, Kevin is the oldest son. He had been by the cemetery to visit his mother before coming to the house. We had a good visit and then he headed home. Kevin has just been great to me and I love him for that.

Jerry and I went for a walk in the Granbury Park and then on to dinner before ending our day.

Thank you, Jerry, for such a good day.

Until next time.

White Horse Station, Clifton, Texas

May 9, 2008

Jerry on the left and Ken West in the yellow shirt.

This week has been pretty quiet. Brian came by for a visit on Thursday afternoon and we took him to dinner at Loco Coyote. For those of you who haven't been there, you should try it out. It is an old building out in the country with a big porch for dining and inside the tables just have benches to sit on. It serves great food and is just a neat place to eat.

Jerry and I went to Clifton tonight, Jerry was playing bass with a band for a dance at the White Horse Station. As usual it was a lot of fun. Some of the band members have played with some big country stars back in their younger days. They had a sax player this time and surprisingly enough he really sounded good with the country music they played. The turn out for these events is usually pretty good for a small town. I really admire some of the older people for getting out on the dance floor and just having fun.

Tomorrow Jerry plays in a golf tournament in Meridian and I will be taking care of business.

Take time to have fun and enjoy your surroundings whereever they may be.

Until next time.

Canton

May 4, 2008,

Of course this is me under an arbor at the park in Glen Rose.

We couldn't decide what we wanted to do today but we ended up at Canton's First Monday Trade Days.

We arrived just in time for a healthy lunch of Twister Fries and a Sausage Corndog for Jerry. Who doesn't love Twister Fries. We opted for homemade ice cream for desert instead of funnel cake. It really hit the spot.

The weather was perfect and after strolling around the shops for about three hours we decided to head back home. We decided to take Highway 67 back through Cleburne where we would eat dinner at a restaurant there that has a pretty good steak. Then on to Glen Rose. There is a quant little park there that we wanted to walk around in, it features a few old buildings and a nice walk around by the Puluxy River.

The above pictures were taken at the park.

Until next time.

Update

May 7, 2008

This is just a quick update to get us current.

After our trip to San Antonio we have just been working around here. Lots of mowing to do with all the rain. Several of the workers that were staying here have pulled out and it is pretty quite around here. We still have a lot of spaces filled but we are looking forward to filling back up again.

Jerry is finally feeling better but the cough is lingering around for a while eventhough it is better as well.

We kept Alex overnight this last week. That was fun. He had soooooooo much fun. I bet he walked ten miles. He loved being outside and just being a little boy. He drove the golf cart, played in the dog pen, checked out the flowers and much more. He also pulled Mimi around by the cord around my neck that I keep my office keys on, as you can see above. We had a good time. Alex is very loving and sweet and is generally a good boy.

Until next time.

San Antonio

April 20, 2008

This post is someone late due to our internet service being down for over a week. We are finally up and running, at least for the time being so I will try to catch up on what has been going on with the Browns.

Do you see anyone you know in the picture of the Alamo?

Today is the day to leave for San Antonio. We got up as usual and just took our time getting ready to leave. We were on the road by 9am and arrived in San Antonio about 1:30pm. The drive was very pleasant as we took in the beauty of all the different wild flowers along the highway. Jerry said there weren't as many bluebonnets as usual but there were many different kinds of flowers to enjoy.
After checking into our hotel we took a walk on the Riverwalk and then onto a boat for a tour down the river. Jerry wasn't feeling well before we left for our trip and it seems all the vegatation on the riverwalk only added to his misery. He was sneezing, runny nose and eyes and had a bad cough. After the boat ride we went back to our room for a rest before having dinner. We found a great italian restaurant and enjoyed a nice dinner before retiring back to our room.
Monday morning came with Jerry feeling worse, however, we did go to the Buckhorn Museum and then had lunch. We spent much of our time in the hotel room today. There was to be a riverboat parade and chairs were being lined up all along the riverwalk. The tickets for the parade were $65 each. We decided we would just order room service and watch it on TV and boy am I glad that we did. The parade was very boring and in my opinion certainly not worth paying $65 each to be in a crowd of people.
We left for home on Tuesday morning and took a detour to the Wild Seed Farm near Fredericksburg. The Poppy fields were pretty and there were several other wild flower fields but many were not in full force yet.
All in all it was a relaxing trip and the scenery was certainly nice.
Until next time.

Granbury Live

April 12, 2008

Jerry & I have been pretty busy with one thing or the other this week, however, we had a call from "Sister", an associate from Granbury Live, who invited us to be their guest at the new show called COUNTRY.

After a busy day mowing and working around the park we shut things down and got ready to go into Granbury for the show. We arrived early enough to have some dinner first, someone told us about "The Loft", don't waste your time or money. The salad and wine were good but the service was not great nor was the entree. The meat okay, the vegetables cold and tasteless.

Anyway back to the show. The show was a group of muscians and singers from the Granbury, Stephenville area and I thought they did a great job. They did country music from the Bop Wells era until the present time. The young man on the fiddle was great and his wife was a very good singer as well. The group was comprised of a teacher, an engineer from Lockheed Martin, a young lady who works with horses, and others. All and all it was a good show well worth seeing.

It is Sunday and I think today may be a lazy day. We have to be in Fort Worth at 8am in the morning for Jerry's bloodwork, etc for his checkup.

We hope to get some time for more adventures but until then I will enter things of interest as they happen.

Until later,

White Horse Station, Clifton, Texas

April 4, 2008

I am back again. We finally made time to have some fun.

White Horse Station is an establishment in old downtown Clifton and as their website states they offer a unique mix of people, places and things. Last night we joined our friends in Clifton for dinner at the American Legion and then on to the White Horse Station for music and dance. Ken West and a group of other muscians performed and fun was had by all. Both young and old.

We have met some really friendly people in Clifton. It is one of those out of the way places that you would never think about visiting but they offer up the old downtown feel with shopping and entertainment.

Tonight Ken West and Jerry will be playing at the White Horse Station for cocktail hour preceding dinner and a show they are having, I believe for charity. I will let you know how that goes. Then we will be on to the Hill Country Bar & Grill in Meridian for dinner and the musical talents of Bob Bone, who also played with last nights group.

It is a busy weekend for Jerry, he is also playing in a golf tournament at Iron Horse in North Richland Hills today and will rush home, change and be on to Clifton. Needless to say we will need a rest tomorrow.

Until later, enjoy the simple pleasures in life.

Great Grandparents, Again!

March 22, 2008

Today our Granddaughter, Bridgett, gave birth to Dallen Mattox Henson weighing in at 10lbs, 12 ozs, needing a shave and a haircut. All are doing well.

Somebody call Jerry Jones! It won't be long.

On Wednesday night we met the family at a restaurant in Cleburne to celebrate his arrival. The proud parents and grandparents are obviously taken aback at their new addition, as they should be. We all know that feeling when we just can't stop looking at our new little bundle of joy. Only Dallen is a "Big" bundle of joy. They said he sleeps all the time even during feedings, but as we all know, that will change in time.

All joking aside we wish you all the very best with your new addition.

We will enter a post whenever we have something new of interest to share with our friends and family.

Happy Easter! Happy Birthday Bryce!

March 23, 2008

We had invited Tracy, Dave, Lily, Ashley, Brian, Alex, Brian, Mary, Bryce, Shae & kids, Kevin and Sarah for Easter dinner and a birthday party for Bryce. It was up early for Jerry and I to prepare for their arrival. I finished with the food that I was preparing just in time to get showered and ready for the day.

After everyone arrived we sat down to a feast and enjoyed our time together. When everyone was finished eating the kids were ready for their Easter Egg Hunt. The guys were nominated to hide the eggs, some were to be hidden easy for the smaller kids and harder for the bigger kids. Then we let them lose. Alex and Leyton were a little apprehensive but when they got started they did a great job. When all the eggs were accounted for we went back inside to have the birthday portion of the day.
We all went together and got Bryce a new bicycle for his birthday. He was excited and went out to ride right away. Oh, and let us not forget that Kevin brought him some MRA's or I's, I'm not sure, anyway some rations to keep him sustained should he get lost in the woods. We all had a good time and it was time for everyone to start getting ready to go home.
Thank you all for coming and have a great week!
Love,

Big Rock Park, Glenrose, Tx

March 22, 2008

Brian and Bryce decided to come out to Granbury on Friday afternoon and stay through Easter. I met them in Granbury and we came home from there after stopping for steaks for Jerry to grill for dinner. After dinner they retired to the RV for some leggo building and Jerry and I just watched TV and went to bed.

Saturday morning Jerry took Brian and Bryce out to the river to see how much it had gone down and they fished a little bit. No luck fishing. When they got back the boys and I went to Big Rock Park in Glenrose. It was a great day for it. The weather was perfect. It is a great place to climb around on the rocks, wade or just hang out.

Later in the evening we went to Meridian for dinner at the Cactus Grill, yum. After that it was home and ready to relax for the night. We had a big day coming up with everyone arriving for Easter.

Horseshoe Bend River Lot

There should be a dock here but as you can see it is either under water or it is gone altogether. Most of the dock went down the river during the floods last year.

March 21, 2008

After our walk yesterday Jerry & I decided to drive out to Horseshoe Bend to check the water level at our river lot. I believe the river is up something like 15 ft.

The picture on the right is a picture of our neighbor's property. There is usually a nice sandy beach area where there is now water up to the rock wall.

The river was running quite rapidly and looked pretty muddy. We will be going back soon to mow and clean up around the lot to get ready for some fishing when time allows and the water level goes down.

Have a good day!

Fossil Rim Wildlife Center

March 17, 2008

We have Lily for a couple of days while she is on Spring break and her mother is recovering from surgery. She is doing great by the way!

We decided to cancel my dentist appointment and go to Fossil Rim Wildlife Center today because is is suppose to rain all day tomorrow. We arrived at the park before 9am and left around noon. It is quite a scenic drive eventhough it is only 9.5 miles. Jerry bought feed and the animals came right up to the car for food and petting. Of course, the signs say don't let the animals eat out of your hand because some of them will bite. The girls in the car in front of us were feeding the animals from their hands so of course, Lily had to try it too. It was fine until we got to the zebras, then we decided we would have to keep Lily until her zebra bite went away or her mother would kill us. It nipped her on the arm an left a round spot about two inches in diameter, however, it was gone by the next day.

After that adventure we ate lunch in Glen Rose at Anderson's Cafe. It was a booming little restaurant and the food was pretty good. The rest of the afternoon was just spent watching TV and hanging out.

I took Lily home on Wednesday morning and we are now preparing for the Easter weekend. I am afraid it is going to rain and spoil the Easter Egg Hunt. Maybe it will hold off.
More later.

Work, Easter, Birthdays, OH MY!

Bonsai Pine Forest, reminds me of home.
Dallas Arborteum

March 16, 2008

Well, this week we will not be taking our day trip as usual. With the Nuclear Plant outage going on we have almost all RV sites, cottages, etc, filled up and need to stay close by as we have people coming in. This is great for our business and we need to take care of our customers.

Next weekend we will be hosting an Easter luncheon for all the little ones and their parents as well as an Easter Egg Hunt and a Birthday Party for Bryce. For those of you who don't know, Bryce is my grandson and he will be turning 10 on March 25th along with my mother.

Happy Birthday, Mom & Bryce!

Needless to say there is much to be done in preparation for Easter as well as keeping up with things around here this week.

I will say goodbye for now and will return next week with pictures and stories from the Easter weekend.

Have a great week!

Dallas Arboretum/Happy Birthday, Leyton!

March 9, 2008

This weekends day trip took us to the Dallas Arboretum and then on to a birthday party for Great Grandson, Leyton.

We took Granddaughter, Lily with us to the Dallas Blooms at the arboretum. This 6-week festival is the largest outdoor floral festival in the Southwest. There are over 450,000 spring-blooming bulbs, including tulips, daffodils, dutch iris and hyacinth. Along with these are l00,000 pansies, violas and poppies. The finale of the spring celebration will be the 3,000 azaleas located throughout the gardens.

Other events to be seen is the DeGolyer Home. The 21,000 square-foot home was built in 1940 for petroleum geologist Everette L. DeGolyer and his wife, Nell. Mr. DeGolyer pioneered new methods of locating petroleum. His library held 15,000 books and is a featured attraction. (Lily said she could stay there forever.)

For the kids there are minature buildings of different kinds, such as a church, school, cabins, sod house, a covered wagon and a Native American tepee. There are wagon rides, a Lil' Britches Rodeo, and music just to name a few.

Go online, check out the various events coming up in the Spring, Summer, and Fall and take time to enjoy the beauty around you.

After the arboretum we dropped Lily back at home and headed to the birthday party. Leyton turned two years old so we were there to wish him a Happy Birthday and join in the festivities before returning home for a much needed rest after a very long day.
Till next time.

Lake Mineral Wells State Park & Trailway

Sunday, March 2, 2008

We awoke to cloudy skies with the promise of rain later on in the day, however, we decided to venture out for our "Weekend Adventure".

Mineral Wells is located approximately 40 miles north of Granbury and provided us with a scenic drive to reach our destination. After having lunch we drove to Lake Mineral Wells. Lake Mineral Wells is a 646 acre lake with boating, fishing, swimming and offers 100 picnic sites as well as RV hookups. The lake provides a beach for swimming, paddleboat and canoe rentals as well as trolling boats to cruise the lake.

Cowboy poetry and stargazing are some of the programs offered at the new Lone Star Amphitheater. One of our favorite sites is Penitentiary Hollow. Stone steps laid more than 50 years ago wind through a lakeside labyrinth of giant boulders, rock walls and narrow canyons.
The trip down allows one the opportunity to see the rocks and formations up close and personal and if you are really adventurous rock climbing hooks are embedded in rocks around the area so that you can rock climb. The trip back up was a little workout but worth every breath. I can't wait to go back especially since I forgot my camera.

Another feature of the park is the trailway. This is a 20 mile long multi-use trail converted from an abandoned railroad right-of-way that runs northwest of Weatherford to downtown Mineral Wells. Now don't laugh, but Jerry and I plan on trying to walk the trail before the weather gets too hot.

I realize this is getting a little lengthy but just one more thing before I go. If you haven't been to Clark Gardens Botanical Park be sure to put that on your list of things to do this Spring and Summer. It is a 35 acre garden with facilities for all kinds of special events. It is open year round and one can see the beauty of each season as it emerges throughout the garden.

I hope that you can enjoy some of this little trip through my words.

Until next time get out there and see what your area has to offer.

Meridian State Park

February 24, 2008

Today is the first day of our "Weekend Adventures". It is amazing what is in our own back yards and yet we think we have to travel outside the realm to be entertained.

We drove to Meridian State Park which is about thirty minutes southwest of Granbury. After purchasing our park pass we drove around Lake Meridian where we discovered the different aminities that the park has to offer. There are great camp sites for tents and RVs as well as screened shelters, showers, restrooms, picnic areas and of course a hiking trail.

Jerry and I parked our vehicle and took the hiking trail off into the woods. The trail was about a mile and a half long. As we followed the trail we discovered a small waterfall and stopped to admire the view and listen to the sound of the water as it trickled over the rocks. There were a few times when I thought that we were lost because the trail went from a smooth path to just meandering through the woods but we eventually came back to the car.

After the walk we drove back around the lake and discovered some great views from paths leading off the road. I have attached some pictures for your pleasure.

I don't know why we don't realize how many good places we have to visit right here in our own back yard.

Until next time I hope you enjoy our little adventure.
